For the next few weeks, Sky students will be working on small "Design Challenges". These challenges will introduce students to the design process, growth mindset, collaboration, working with a variety of materials, and problem solving. This week's challenge is to work with a partner or team to create a structure that stands with only 20 straws and a small amount of tape. The Engineering Design Process steps are to Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, and Improve. Below are some images of students brainstorming their plan and the beginning stages of prototyping their designs! These projects will be on display in the hallway throughout their development so you can check them out.
Our Design & Engineering curriculum is influenced by the Museum of Science, Boston Engineering Is Elementary, Design Thinking from the Stanford d.School, and Visible Thinking routines from Harvard's Project Zero for educators.
