Soul Writing

Natasha's language group took advantage of the warm weather last Tuesday. We took a walk with our journals, and we sat down to "soul write."
Soul writing involves sitting in silence and writing about what we notice all around us using our senses of sight, touch, hearing and smell.

This group of students have loved the soul writing experiences that we have had so far this year. These have taken place on the playground. On Tuesday we walked to a special spot along the creek.

The students sat quietly for 15 minutes as we observed what was around us and wrote.

When soul writing, students don't worry about punctuation or using correct spelling. The purpose is to get their words on the page. They can go back later and edit their writing if they choose to.
The students had the opportunity to read their writing to the group when we returned to the classroom.
