Sky Class Updates

There has been so much going on in Sky Class! This is a long blog post but there is so much information we needed to share with our Sky families!

Art News:
The Sky and River students have been working in the ceramics center in art class during the past few weeks. Students learned to make pinch pots and connect two of them by scoring and adding a slip. The hollow ball that they created using this process was then transformed into a pumpkin by adding a stem and creating a scoring pattern to represent the sections of a pumpkin. After their work was fired in the kiln, they painted their pumpkins using acrylic paint.

NCCBA Update:
The winner of the Sky Class NCCBA went to I Yam a Donkey by CeCe Bell!

Hour of Code:
This week students all over the nation participated in the "Hour of Code". The programs Sky Class students coded with included Scratch, Jr., Tynker for School, and Lightbot: Code Hour. Coding is so important and challenges students to think outside of the box to problem solve and troubleshoot different algorithms they create. All of these programs come in the form of an ipad app and are free if you choose to use them at home!

Book Talks:
This week, Natalie came into our language groups to give book talks! She recommended all types of books for all reading levels in the library. The students were able to check out books without a limit for Winter Vacation so that no child is without a book to read during that time. How exciting!!
