Library Class

Children consistently and across the board enjoy read aloud time during library class. Mary uses a variety of “voices” to help engage the student’s attention to the story. Stories typically focus on a particular picture book and the author, with attention to style of writing, content, and “message” the author may be trying to convey. As the stories unfold, discussion centers on character development, place, time, and setting.

Students are given instructional time prior to story read-aloud. Activities and lessons focus on: What is New in the Library; Fiction/Non-fiction; Location of books; New books; School theme-related books; Topics that relate to seasonal changes, world events, holidays. Activities include: library search games, question and answer, seek and hunt activities. Students look forward to checking out books as well independent reading.
